Tudor Home Renovation

Trade Design Build worked with our clients to build a one-of-a-kind kitchen and foyer area in a home in Cayuga Heights, Ithaca, NY. The home is a substantial historic home that has exquisite wood trim and details that helped inspire our design team to find a balance between the old home and a modern twist that fits in perfectly. We focused on a custom cabinet door detail that evoked the hand-crafted detailing found in the rest of the house and put it on display in the new kitchen with a bread-board door style that allowed the construction details to shine through. We also used a fuming process to bring richness to all of the wood in the project.

One of the primary requests from our clients was to make the space lighter and create more connection between the kitchen and the adjacent spaces. We achieved this by prioritizing opening up the floor plan and providing a large opening in a wall between the kitchen and the hallway down to the formal dining space. Additionally, to complement the rich woodwork, we chose a light lime-wash paint that provided some texture on the walls while still lightening up the space. President Eisenhower once visited this home, and we think he would approve of these changes.
